Are you looking for a place to “earn a big paycheck and live comfortably”? Raleigh and Cary were both listed in the top 20 in an article by GOBankingRates of the “Most Surprising Cities to Live If You Want To Make A Lot of Money“. The study by GOBankingRates looked at 188 U.S. cities containing at least 50,000 households and examined the median household income, cost of living, median home list price, labor force participation rate, and top income tax rate in each city. GOBankingRates only included cities where people earn more than the average state resident. We have summarized their findings on Raleigh and Cary below.
Raleigh was number 20 on the list and would have been much higher if GOBankingRates had only focused on comparing city and state incomes. The median household income is $61,505. The state median income is $50,320. The difference between city and state incomes is $11,185.
Cary came in at number six on the list and has the third-highest difference between city and state incomes according to this study. The median household income is $97,755. The state median income is $50,320. The difference between city and state incomes is $47,435.
If you are wondering who was at the top of the list, you might be surprised to hear that the top three cities where you can earn a surprisingly large amount of money were all located in Texas. You can check out the full study at GOBankingRates.com.
